Ugbotako Diaspora Family

About

Ugbotako Diaspora Family (UDF)

The poor state of development in our hometown gave rise to the initiative known as Ugbotako Diaspora Family (UDF). The idea was proposed by Dr. Odimayo Akindutire and Mrs. Kemi Atijosan in April 2020. Mrs. Atijosan subsequently became the first elected President of the group, which is made up of sons and daughters of Igbotako in the diaspora who have come together to ensure that Igbotako and its people begin to enjoy well-rounded development through the creation of new institutions.

Who We Are

Dr. Odimayo Akindutire and Mrs. Kemi Atijosan started the movement in London in April 2020. Mrs. Atijosan was subsequently appointed the pioneer President. The organization consists of sons and daughters of Igbotako in the diaspora who have come together to ensure that the town and its people begin to enjoy all-around development through the creation of new institutions.

In recent times, due to government and community neglect, Igbotako’s development has experienced serious stagnation. Even some of the earliest development projects have deteriorated because of the absence of a maintenance culture.

This stagnation eventually led to the birth of Ugbotako Diaspora Family (UDF). Today, UDF has fifty (50) notable members from different countries, and we are still growing.

Our Vision

Our vision is to see Igbotako develop economically with adequate infrastructure that enhances the lives of its inhabitants and creates a town that functions as a positive model community within Nigeria.

Our Mission

We support the delivery of meaningful infrastructural and cultural development in Ugbotako by leveraging the talents of our members and working in partnership with citizens and other stakeholders.

Our Purpose

The purpose of UDF is to galvanize the indigenes of Igbotako in the diaspora, as well as the sons and daughters at home who wish to join and contribute toward the development of the Igbotako community.

Our History

The traditional head of Ugbotako is the Oba (King), who, by extension, is also the paramount ruler of the entire Osooro land. He bears the official title Rebuja of Osooro. The Rebuja throne is shared on a rotational basis between Igbotako and Ilutitun, the two largest and most prominent towns in the kingdom. The Rebuja is assisted by titled chiefs, who are organized hierarchically as Eghares and Ijamas, followed by the Omoja group. The Oba is the executive head, while the Council of Chiefs, made up of Eghares and Ijamas, constitutes the lawmaking body. The Omojas act as the traditional police who enforce the King’s and the Chiefs’ orders. The second-in-command to the King is the Lisa, who functions as the traditional Prime Minister.

The Ijamas and Eghares form the Council of Elders. In addition to their legislative role, the council also advises the King in decision-making.
